The project is currently in its monsoon break and will resume field activities some time in September. Here is a short summary of project news:
In June and July, the problem tiger near Chandpai village has continued to cause havoc, killing multiple cows and dogs. Since August, however, sign of the tiger around the village area decreased, allowing Mizan and Alam to finally break for the monsoon. In response to this ongoing problem of livestock depredation, we have taken on an environmental studies student from North South University called Hasan Rahman to research this issue next season.
Alam and Mizan are currently in Dhaka taking English lessons and learning how to use computers. When they return to work for the project in September they will have new skills to contribute. Both have never visited the capital city before and have been taken under Tanjil's watchful eye/beard.
The BBC2 program on the ganges (which featured STP) aired on August 17th. Some highlights cof this can be found by searching Youtube for "Sundarbans Tiger Project".
Upcoming events
STP (represented by Hasan Rahman) will give a presentation in the Tourisn Fair held in Dhaka in early September.
STP will be presenting a poster at the felid conservation conference in Oxford in mid september.
Note: past "news from the field articles" can be found in STP PressBox link.
