We just met a field trip from the International school, Dhaka. They were very understanding of the conservation issues relating to tigers and are already making plans to do something for the sundarbans tigers. I think schools and universities have a huge role to play for spreading knowledge about tigers and making environmental issues in general a substantial part of the curriculum. We are trying to think of what programs we can initiate and who could implement them. Ideas off the top of my head –
1. Books for primary, secondary and university level.
2. Presentations by conservation scientists
3. Every year all schools could have a “Tiger Week”; a week of plays, concerts, competitions, movies, education, fund raising etc. This could be started by one or two schools which could reach out to other institutions to spread the effect and coordinate efforts.
4. Field trips for schools and universities; some are already being done but in some cases the scope and organization of the trips could be improved. How do we get it so that kids from poor economic backgrounds get to visit the sundarbans and learn about tigers?
5. Universities could offer scholarships to outstanding students who are likely to contribute to conservation of the sundarbans.
The list of things we could do here is probably endless, if people could add to it, or better yet thinks of practical ways to implement and finance them then that would be great. |

I've just joined and share just the exact same views about tiger conservation as you mentioned. When I first came to know about how men turned Indian tigers into tigerskins, I was shocked at the brutality. Their way of hunting down the tigers and the corruption in the authority reminded me just how bad could it get if it was here in Bangladesh. From then on, i was determined to do something to prevent that from being repeated in Bangladesh. Now that I am about to pass my HSC's, I can look forward to study in a relevant subject so that I can use my knowledge in tiger conservation. But I was totally taken aback when I heard that we do not have proper educational fascilities on this subject, in a country in which the Royal Bengal Tiger is honoured as a national animal and National Heritage. 
I do not know if pug mark printing is still being used in tiger census but if it is, I do know it can project exaggerated numbers. If fund is the problem using modern technology then we can seek fund from the multinational companies. Recently, Banglalink who have beutified the Cox's Bazar beach. We can ask them to fund this project as they use tiger as their logo. Scientists in africa are already using GPS collars on lions. I bet we can implement the same on Tigers.

I am MD.Mehdihasan mehdi.My liking is river padma,birds,other animals and their environment related fact and so many almost extincted bird..I have seen the deadly situation of a river.I write a book on Comparative psychology in bengali for the first time.It's not published yet.As well as i am a good observer on animal behavior.I writes on those by observing.I checks every magazine in Geography channel.As well as i makes library work.Though i could not get a good sponsor in Bangladesh.I am a good Psychoanalist as well as.But in National Geographic Channel for better performance i need some Camera And ID Card from this channel.That is What i am Asking From this channel through this Blog as i am suffering for. hello mehdi,
its nice to know you are a national geography member. i work with greenpeace,canada and think that we can share our common interest about environment and ecosystem with this thread.i am very happy to know that we have a website like that . i did not know. do you know the recent work on tiger project? have you raed the article on radio collar posted by adam barlow?
